When you need to remove old furniture, it might be tempting to just throw it out with the trash. However, donating it to a charity like Goodwill or The Salvation Army is far more sustainable and beneficial. What is so great about it? Several firms would be more than pleased to arrive and haul away your old couch for you.

However, it’s important to remember that not all furniture donations are welcome by these organizations. In addition, as a quick side note, I should mention that representatives from both The Salvation Army and Goodwill have advised that, before arranging a pickup, you should verify the location where you will be donating to ensure that the item in question is acceptable to them.

Furniture contributions can be sent to many national charities, not only Goodwill or The Salvation Army. Organizations like AmVets, Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, and the National Furniture Bank Association help those needing furniture. (Of course, availability will differ from area to location, so it is important to conduct your research.)

Consider donating to a local charity as well; they often have thrift stores that could use donations. Donation Town is an online resource for locating local organizations that will take up your used furniture at no cost.

However, things are handled differently in major urban centres. When you live in Houston, for instance, you may find it challenging to put your furniture on the curb for rubbish collection because of local ordinances. What to Do and What Not to Do When Donating

After you have arranged to pick up your furniture, it is time to prepare it for transportation. The following points are important to bear in mind:

Check to ensure that the products you want to give are in excellent operating condition and need little to no repair.

Don’t give away anything dirty, broken, or otherwise in poor condition.

Don’t try to give away your old mattress since many charities, including Goodwill, won’t take them.

Be sure to give yourself enough time to carefully assess whether or not the product is in a state that can be resold. Is it possible that anybody could wish to purchase this? The charity may suffer a loss due to your gift if this does not occur.
