A device that maintains the pressure of liquids or gases in the medium by decreasing a high input pressure to control the lower output pressure is called an electronic air pressure regulator. In recent years, digital pneumatic regulator comes in various forms. These pressure regulator works to control a constant output pressure when there are oscillations in the inlet pressure. The main factor that is common in all these applications is to control pressure from a higher source pressure to lower output pressure throughout the system. Pressure regulators are commonly used in many domestic as well as industrial applications such as:

  • To regulate propane used in gas grills
  • To hold oxygen in healthcare equipment
  • To supply compressed air in industrial applications
  • To control fuel in automotive engines and aerospace applications

How does electro pneumatic pressure regulator work?

Electronic pressure regulators offer higher pressure, more flexibility, and extra robustness compared to previous technologies. An electronic fuel pressure regulator works with the help of both a push valve and a vent valve that possesses the outlet pressure at the selected set-point. When a small inner pressure controller monitors the output pressure, a digital or analogue switch pinches the timing of the regulator to possess the required set-point. The digital pneumatic regulator can be used with air, gas, steam, and liquids mainly depending on your application in the industries.

Basic elements of a digital pressure regulator:

A typical electric pressure regulator consists of the following elements:

  • A pressure-reducing element that includes a poppet regulator
  • A pressure reducing element such as a poppet valve.
  • A loading element involves the required force to the pressure reducing elements such as a spring, piston actuator, or diaphragm actuator.
  • A sensing element is specifically used to monitor the system such as a diaphragm or a piston.

Pressure reducing element:

Typically spring loaded poppet regulators are used as pressure-reducing elements. These regulators have elastomeric sealing in regular applications whereas thermoplastic sealing in high-pressure applications. These seals stop any gas or fluid leakage in the applications related to the digital pneumatic regulator. The poppet regulator is maintained by the spring force to open the valve and allow the medium flow from the inlet to the outlet throughout the system. When there is a rise in output pressure, the electronic air pressure regulator closes due to the force caused by the sensing element that overcomes the spring force.

Loading element:

The loading element is used to open a valve by forcing the sensing element. The portion of spring force can be assorted which specifies the amount of outlet pressure acquired.

The sensing element:

Normally, pistons in a control pressure regulator are used for high pressures, powerful applications, and those applications where more comprehensive tolerances on the outlet pressure are applicable. Digital pneumatic regulator tends to be dull due to friction between the pinion sealing and the regulator body. They are constructed by elastomer or a thin disc kind of material that is sensitive to transformations in pressure
